Absurdities

Our Beloved Leaders have, so it seems, only just woken up to the fact that next Thursday the people of Scotland will vote whether or not to remain part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.  In an effort to persuade the Scots to stay United, it was ordained that the Scottish saltire should be flown at 10 Downing Street instead of the Union Flag.

I have to wonder if flying a Scottish flag in London will really influence public opinion.  If it were to do so, I would suggest that we would be better off without Scotland!

I also have to wonder if it really takes two men to hoist a flag?

And is it really so dangerous a job that they need hard hats and hi-vis jackets?

Absurdity upon absurdity.

I largely agree, but suggest that if the UK breaks up it will prove very expensive for everyone. A particularly bad divorce with ramifications that last for years. It should never have got to this. And a close call, either way, is not going to kill the issue. My wife is Scottish - we have Scottish friends and family. On a lighter note - the Scots have been told that if they vote 'Yes' they won't be allowed to hate the English anymore; clearly, some are now considering a 'No' vote more seriously...

Mike, you are so right when you say it should never have got to this. The whole thing has been handled very badly, from (in my opinion) politicians in Scotland promising what they will never be able to deliver to politicians in Westminster failing to see the problem clearly.
