Another bank holiday

As Christmas Day fell on a Saturday this year, the Monday and Tuesday following have been declared bank holidays so many workers have been able to enjoy a four-day break. Not so the armed forces, emergency services, transport workers or many shop workers. For the last, these are, or can be, hectic days. The after-Christmas sales usually start on Boxing Day and this year has been no exception, apart from just a couple of the major stores which decided to wait until Monday. I have never been one for shopping at the best of times and the thought of struggling through the hordes of people pushing and shoving to buy something just because it is a bargain although they will later wonder why on earth they spent the money - well, the thought alone horrifies me. And as for those people who queue half the night so as to be among the first into the shop!! No, I would rather pay the full price and have done with it.

Ironically, the quote from George Santayana on your sidebar is"
"Fanaticism consists in redoubling your effort when you have forgotten your aim."

I'm sorry to say that had passed me by!
