It seems to me that blogging is about as useful a way of passing the time as tossing pebbles into the sea, so for what it's worth - and that's not a lot - here are a few pebbles.

Pennsylvania 6-5000
I've answered my own question. Apparently it was and still is the number of the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York, except that the letters P and E have been replaced with the numbers 7 and 3.
