It seems to me that blogging is about as useful a way of passing the time as tossing pebbles into the sea, so for what it's worth - and that's not a lot - here are a few pebbles.

The stolen lilacs
Our lilac theft has reached to national press and even featured on the television news last night. I would embed the video clip, but it doesn't seem to be embedable (Is that a word?).
Wasn't that something one of the Simpsons said? Not that I have ever seen the Simpsons, you understand, but I try to keep my ear to the ground (which makes walking the dog a little difficult, not to say uncomfortable).

It's a dd.
If it is embeddable, I can't figure it out.
DD - Double Diamond, a long-extinct light ale.
I stand corrected - apparently it's not extinct, at least, according to this web site it's not.
Yes, I think you had DD confused with Dodo? :)

No, I think the expression from the Simpsons is "Doh!"
I only brought up the Dodo because you mentioned extinct.
I don't think the dodo ever lived around here. A New Zealander, wasn't it? Like the kiwi?
The 'extinct' bird around here is the martlet. Now there's a challenge - see what you can find out about that!
Dodos were on Mauritius.
Wasn't the martlet supposedly legless?
Oh yes, it was Mauritius. And yes, the martlet is legless, just like so many others in Brighton!
